Wave Villa

Nestled at the base of Lion’s Head on Cape Town’s breathtaking Atlantic Seaboard, Wave Villa is a masterful blend of natural light, thoughtful design, and architectural innovation. This transformed home retains its original footprint while introducing an open-plan layout that seamlessly connects the interior with garden terraces and panoramic ocean views.

At the heart of Wave Villa’s design is its use of lighting to enhance both its aesthetic and emotional appeal. The open-plan upper level features floor-to-ceiling glass doors, connecting the lounge and dining areas to the expansive terrace. This "pavilion-like" transparency maximizes natural light throughout the day, filling the living spaces with warmth and brightness. Perforated metal screens diffuse sunlight, creating a soft, filtered glow that casts intricate patterns across the surfaces, providing shade without sacrificing the serene flow of light.

The lighting design in Wave Villa is carefully integrated with its natural materials, including light oak and Cape Granite, which ground the space in its mountainous surroundings while providing tactile warmth. Light oak panelling on the ceilings, walls, and floors offers a sense of softness, while exposed concrete elements contrast with the warmth of the wood, adding texture and visual interest. The ceiling’s design elevates above clerestory windows, framing the stunning vistas while allowing sunlight to filter in, creating an ever-changing play of light and shadow throughout the home.

The winding “orange peel” staircase serves not only as a functional element but as a sculptural piece in the entrance, illuminated by our bespoke chandelier. Wave Villa’s lighting is not just a practical feature—it is integral to the design, enhancing every aspect of the home’s relationship with its natural setting. Whether it's the flowing light of the day or the warm, inviting glow at night, lighting creates an experience that connects the interiors with the beauty of the outdoors, making Wave Villa a harmonious retreat where architecture, nature, and light coexist in perfect balance.
